After 17 years in the advertising and publishing industries in Minneapolis, San Diego and Phoenix, Sarah gravitated to a career as a fine artist. Her art involves working quickly on a wet, flat surface. Most recently her style has become looser, less linear, less blended, and less minimal. With time came her ability to see art in the unexpected, doing away with straight lines and overly blended colors in favor of loose circles and gestural strokes. Contrasting layers are exposed in some areas of the canvas and applied opaquely in other areas. Paint is applied with brushes, scrapers, rollers and often directly from the tube or bottle. It’s about capturing something elusive and fleeting.
Sarah was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1963. Her education includes a BA in Journalism from University of Minnesota; Graphic Arts Degree from Platt College in San Diego, CA and additional art education at Scottsdale Artists School, Scottsdale, AZ.

Artist’s Statement:
My recent abstracts are non-uniform color fields highlighted with overlays of amorphous shapes that appear to be actual identifiable objects, slightly out of focus, that ultimately elude classification. The paintings are created on a wet surface with varying amounts of saturated color melting together. A second layer highlights some elements from the first layer and obscures others. Some color is wiped away leaving traces behind. On occasion I will outline the focal point or float lines of color for space definition with the intent of reigning in chaos. A glossy finish will bring out the layers of color not unlike looking at rocks under water.
